One web definition of curate that embodies our mission: cu·rate, verb- select, organize, and present (online content, merchandise, information, etc.), typically using professional or expert knowledge. It is in this spirit we are partnering with studio pottery makers to present their stories for the public and bring their work to market. This is why Curated Ceramics is a web-based platform. It's simply not practical to reach the wider public any other way. The seed for Curated was planted by respected local maker Richard Bresnahan of St. John's University. In meeting Steve he learned of the years he'd been personally visiting artists to get their stories of training, process, and inspiration. He asked, "What are you doing with all this information? I hope you're writing it down because it could be important for researchers down the road." That sat on Steve's mind for many years until one morning in April 2016 when the idea of Curated was born. Thank you, Richard, for this love of makers and their work has no end. Curated will be that platform for sharing what I learn and promise to now write.
